People living with obesity should exercise at specific times of the day according to new research
New research published in the Diabetes Care journal claims that people living with obesity will see greater health benefits if they exercise at certain times of the day.
A UK Biobank study that took place over eight years, has highlighted that exercise between the hours of 6pm and midnight has been linked to greater health benefits.
Conducted by the University of Sydney, the researchers based the study on 30,000 participants using fitness trackers. They found that those who did most of their hard physical exercise at night, had the lowest risk of premature death and dying from cardiovascular disease.
Key findings also indicated that short bursts of activity, lasting three minutes that left people out of breath, also appeared to be more beneficial over their total amount of regular physical activity.
Dr Angelo Sabag, Lecturer in Exercise Physiology at the University of Sydney’s Charles Perkins Centre said: "Exercise is by no means the only solution to the obesity crisis, but this research does suggest that people who can plan their activity into certain times of the day may best offset some of these health risks.”
