Endoscopic procedure shows promising weight loss results
American study, published by the Lancet, has shown how a quick endoscopic procedure can lower the production of hunger hormones.
Research has shown that burning the stomach lining to reduce the production of hunger hormones will lead to weight loss.
Based on 10 female patients, the minimally invasive procedure led to an 8% weight reduction.
Called gastric mucosal ablation, the procedure takes less than an hour and the patient can go home the same day.
Lead author Christopher McGowan, a gastroenterologist and medical director of True You Weight Loss, a physician-owned clinic based in North Carolina said: “Obesity and weight are very complex and regulated by multiple hormone pathways. This procedure alters one of these many pathways that make it difficult for people to lose weight.”
Researchers concluded that if the procedure is proven effective in longer and larger trials, it could potentially be offered as a one-time procedure that replaces or complements other treatments.
